 Post subject: $6000 to spend on motor

hey,

ive got about $6k to spend on my motor..
currently the car runs a CA18DET Auto with FMIC, 3'Exhaust, boost control and air filter..

i'm tossing up between converting the CA to manual and working the motor ( computer,injectors,turbo,manifold,fuel pump) or doin an RB20 Manual conversion...

what would u recomend i do???????

convert the ca i rekon and spend on that, if you do the rb transplant it will eat a substantial amount of that 6K, which means less money for mods !
although with 6K you can do either easily, but its not like you've got a shit engine at the moment neways

Why change the motor and waste precious $$$ when you could use all that to make the ultimate or nicely balanced CA S13!!

But hey.... its only a ca right :roll:

Keep the CA.
The HPI project-Drift CA is making about 186 rwkw on standard internals.
I'm sure what they've done wouldn't have cost $6K.

its now making around 160 as the old engine had cams in it. (they blew that one up, chucked another engine in and it now makes 20kw less at the wheels.)

Yeh I agree spend it on the CA they are a great little engine (I have an SR myself) in many ways they are stronger/better than a sr, apprently they have more in common with big brother RB26 than SRs.

I originally said SR (it was deleted by admin to avoid an SR/CA war in your thread), but having read through some of the points here I have been turned. It would be more cost efficient to stick with what you have, convert it to manual, have the engine balanced and bolt on some mods. I think it will be a whole lot more satisfying too.

did anyone read that issue of HPI where they pitched their CA with 180+kw against a red SR and a black SR and they found that the SR in light modified form had a more linear torque curve, despite being less powerful than the CA....power sells cars, torque wins races....

get a late s14 SR with the bb turbo, and do a few minor mods dude....(my opinion anyway)

yep....that was the one....

when it comes down to it, CA18DET being a very strong engine with cast iron block, and very similar head to RB26, it's still old...

$$ into a CA = fast

$$ into a RB/SR conversion = as slow, if not slower then stock.

so far all the CAs I've seen with big dollars spent have been a lot slower than SRs with less work done.

All the really tough CAs seem to blow up too...
