i have an 1989 nissan 180 sex with ca18det engine done about 100,000. i have just put 25W/70 engine oil in.

i have since been told that this oil is too thick for the CA18 tuerbo engine, is this true?

do i need to drain my new oil? what oil is best for ca18det's?

any help would be greatly appreciated

cheers

that's way too thick. you won't have hurt anything, but should drain it amd put in something of the correct viscosity range asap.

15w/40 or 10w/40 would be more suitable.

25w/70 is the kind of oil you'd put in a clapped out old diesel engine.

Yeh, Fergo308 is right!

You should use thinner oil for the engine! Thick oil will not flow quickly enough through the oil galleries and can not lubricate or cool the bearings efficiently! Thick oil is a NO NO for the turbo bearings, which need thin oil for lubrication and cooling!

Get 10W-30 or 10W40 semi-synthetic oil! REPCO sells their Semi-Synthetic 10W-40 oil for about $30.00 with the oil filter thrown in!

Cheers!

how long ago was the oil put in ? if it was in the last 2 or 3 weeks you should be fine any thing over a month i would start to worry.

Dont worry just drain it out and run some new thinner oil threw..

If u can afford it go full synthetic the oil is MUCH better and your engine will love it!

5W-50 mobil 1 is a good oil I run 0W-40 mobil 1 in my turbo cressida which is a much better oil than the 5W-50 you also pay for it ($80 for 5L) but I buy it in 20L drums.. But I have heard the 0W-40 may be a bit thin for the SR20's dunno about the CA18's tho...

But most Full synthetic oils are damn good and will improve the life of your engine!

Motul have some bargain $40 for 5l fully synthetic oils.

I have used their turbo specific one in 5W-40 before to apparent success.

I don't thinkyou should be afraid to pick something that is thicker when cold like a 5W or 10W. Nice and thick for when everything is cold.

put in some engine flush first, idle for 10min, then let it all out, and put in some motul 4100 turbo light....these are good for $39 @autobarn auburn, but if you want to shell out an extra $5 the motul 6100 is much better and fully synthetic....but you can go up again to motul 8100 for about $55 but might not be so good for an engine with high kms

Seriousely now!

Can you guys really tell the difference between the Valvoline 10-40W semi-synthetic oil and the Motul 10 Turbolight or 0w40 Mobil 1? This is when Nissan recommends 10W-30 or 10W-40 oils for our climatic conditions!

Especially when you are going to flush the oil and change the filter every 3 or 5K? It seems like alot of people here like to flush their money down the drain, as well!

Cheers! :D

i can kind of agree. i changed my oil a few weeks back, it was still honey coloured when i drained it. seemed to be in great condition. and that was in almost 10,000k. i changed it regardless as i believe in changing at 10,000k at the longest

seriously now.....yes...there's a big difference between mobile 1 and motul 6100....my dirty motul 6100 felt better than the new mobile 1 that i put in....if anything, there was more noise coming out of the engine after i put in mobile 1, and the car didnt feel anymore responsive than it did before the oil change. and after 5000km i changed back to motul 6100 and there was a noticeable difference.

my engine oild goes full black everytime i change it and i do it every 5000km

Thanks for seeing my point, sky80!

You agree with me, that there is no point wasting money on Mobil 1 synthetic, when you can get the same results for less the half the price from Valvoline Semi-synthetic from Repco!

PS: They also throw in a new RYCO filter with it, as well, Z445 in my case!

Cheers! :D

I was in Autobarn today checking out all the different types of oils available. I have been using Mobile 1 fully synthetic but have been told it is not much of a performer as compared to others such as MOTUL 6100 and Helix Blue. What are your thoughts on this.

Not hijaking your thread. Just thought it was along the same topic and thought instead of starting another topic just continue with this.
