It has memory,NVRAM, which immediatly stores information when there is no power. Much like a PC

like a PC how? it has very little NVRAM, it had a hard disk (or more) and RAM :P

anyway, the NV stands for Non Volatile which means that it doesnt need power to keep its memory.

So explain to me how, when my car stood in a panel beaters for 3 months with the battery disconnected, that, when it was finally hooked up it had not lost its tune. (PFC)

BTW I was useing PC as an analogy.

And I know what NVRAM means( ( its the name used to describe any type of random access memory which does not lose its information when power is turned off.)

i cant explain to you why yours lost its memory, maybe there was a wiring difference? maybe your car used to be auto? could be a million things.

and the explanation was for rk2k9's benefit, i only assumed you knew what the NV stood for as you even know that NVRAM existed lol

maybe the PFC doesnt have NVRAM! its possible there is a battery in there, or a few capacitors that keep the memory going while there is no battery hooked up to the car

I based my answer on information from the Power FC manual (Page13) which states"Removing the ignition key or battery terminal will NOT affect the memory data" and my own personal experience, hence my answer.

I did say that my Power FC had NOT lost its memory whilst the battery was disconected.

sorry to hijack your thread but just on topic, when i jumpstart my battery is causes a voltage spike which resets my Haltech ecu, i this a common problem with all ecu or is my one just faulty?

Dunno if this relates or not cos I'm about to talk about SAFC and stock ECU

First of all why don't stock computers don't lose settings? I don't see a reason why should A/M computers do so...

My battery was dead for 3 months and SAFC had it's settings in it. Also when I bought it the guy said it was lying around for 6 months and his settings were still there.

I'l ask my electrical guru mate tonight, maybe he knows

std ecu is running from factory set rom settings, not a flashed eeprom, which also shouldn't lose memory without power. only ram dies without power.

as for putting a voltage spike through a haltech, that's an awesome way to kill it very quickly. at least use some decent leads with surge protection if you must jump start it from a running car...

Lmaoooo It's bad enough jumping an efi car but when u spend 2k on the computer and getting it wired I'd think that's the first thing you would want to save
