Another thing; the nut on the left-hand bolt for the diff is almost to the end of the bolt. I know it's normal for one nut to stick out more than the other, but on a car? I wonder if the nut started to move and that's the source of the load and damage? Nothing else looks whacked under there, so that kinda eliminates the accident theory.
There is 2 nuts there 1 is for the earth strap thingy and the other one behind it for the dif.

Biased why? In the trade? Don't suppose you work at Heasmans with the filthy great bilstein sign out front.

I can't discuss details with an online store that SEEMS to have good prices on the Whiteline kits, Whiteline themselves (well, the guy who answered the phone) was a bit clueless a few months ago, I'm starting to think "screw this" if it takes too bloody long to organise something. My rear frame is creaking and I want to act.

Someone on a forum somewhere asked about Pedders, I know there's one near my work, so wtf, I tried their website. No farking use.

So, where do you work and what do you offer?

Tomorrow I'm going to try to get a subframe and dump it on the workshop. Next week I have to get shockers for the rear at the very least. I would like to get more since the opportunity is here, but half-assed websites and clueless phone answerers aren't helping.

Sorry mate, didnt get near the computer all weekend. Haha, yeah i work for Bilstein in the R&D division. (Which is loacted above the Heasmans workshop).

Feel free to call in, I am here from about 8am weekdays until 5pm, but others are here until 6pm that could help.

If you want more info before you drop in please email me at jonathon.mckinnon@bilstein.com.au or call 9557 5930.

Cheers,

Jono

It's all coming together, and soon I'll be able to stop driving like a little old lady again.

Found an S15 subframe at TMG Greenacre, excellent price on it.

Checked out the Bilsteins including the "science" in their brochures which sounds reasonable. The serious probability that it will last longer than the rest of the car (which may not be that impressive given my history for wearing out cars) was a good selling point. So grabbed a pair of rears for the immediate needs and will do the fronts when stock and funds arrive.

Jono, and Tony at Bilstein, explained that for strict street use the standard springs will be fine; that's if you aren't interested in lowering it (not that much range available anyway if you still want to be legal AND get up and down kerbs and over speed humps)

Jono put me onto Unique Autosports, so since I was on a sickie yesterday (seriously, not just bludging) I took a visit in the afternoon and was well looked after, by a guy called Tim. He took in my needs and I've gone for pineapples on the rear subframe mounting bushes to stop the wandering, front camber pins, and poly front caster bushes. Replacing any more of the bushes would not only start to make the car break teeth, but they'd need regular lubing to avoid exploding the joints. Since it's not a track car that's the smart way to go.

Also a pair of uprated sways from Unique - Whiteline 27mm front and 22mm rears. These should kill off the entry understeer and hopefully the potentially deadly plough understeer that happens during massive stomp-the-brakes emergency stopping in mid-corner; something this car suffers from badly vs. my old SSS which was awesomely steerable in the same situation.

Massive thanks to Fergo, Jono, locky, iwanna, boxy, Jay (for comedy relief) and Tony and Tim from the shops, and all the other participants who have tipped some good advice my way.

Best. Forum. Ever. (that I've visited in a long time)

PS also silverS15 who just PM'd me about finding a frame. Cheers

Why are you going any where near the brakes mid corner?

When a kid jumps out? When theres a car cutting the corner (ie. into your lane)?

He's said numerous times that he just drives on the street.. There are plenty of reasons to need to brake on the street.

See, God understands me.

On the roads, even miles from anywhere surrounded only by gumtrees, you need your Brockie eyes fixed in the distance AND peripherally, and you need to know your exit strategies for EVERYTHING that's inside or threatening to come inside your Zone Of Destruction (Copyright 1987). Part of that is the ability to slap the brakes at all times. If you know the boundaries of that, it puts a boundary on the zone.

If you can't protect your Zone Of Destruction then you need to back off NOW.

nahh nahh nahh, read it again.

to kill off the understeer on entry (admittedly, manifests if I gas up too early, sloppy driving) and the horrible plough understeer, that is, kill off that too. Y'know, make it willing to farken turn when shedding speed fast, instead of thinking about it for a second and going off-line by more than a metre. Not good.

I want it to tuck in viciously, not go offline like it just don't care. Maybe I'm hoping for too much. That's one of the first things I'll be trying when the front is finally done.
