this has been going on for a while now & i'm over it...

when the car is cold it will start first go
when the car has warmed up it takes ages to kick it back over???
i just hold the key turned and after around 1 minute it will kick over.

everything has been changed & is brand new in the car, coil packs, plugs have been changed 3 times etc etc
also the battery is in the boot & the cable is on the other side so no heat gets to it.

only thing i have not changed is the igniter could this be my problem?

has anyone else had this problem?

thanks!

have you checked fuel pressure? have you checked that you have decent spark when cranking?

if the timing is correct (should be as you haven't touched that),it has fuel (check that),the injectors are firing (check that next) ,and it has ignition (check that as well) then the engine should fire straight away.

when was the fuel filter changed last? on my last S14 the filter was partially blocked, and the car would start and run fine when cold, but after 5min or so,if you put the boot into it,it would break down due to a lack of supply. check that also if you haven't already.

this kind of sounds like a problem im having at the moment.

did you find out what was causing the issue TRXSleeper?

when i try and start the car when warm, the engine does not kick over at all. battery is fine though. it has only happened twice so far and the problem started on Sunday. i had to clutch start it last night.

Check the fuel system (if it's not holding pressure it can take a while to build it back up while cranking)

also, it's likely that the start signal is not connected to the ECU (common with conversions), which makes starting much more difficult.

The coolant temp sensor is also a likely cause.
If the ECU thinks the engine is cold it'll be flooding it on startup.
Try starting with the throttle floored, and be ready to back off as soon as it fires.
If it starts a lot easier chances are it's flooding.

Leaky injectors can also cause this (usually the o-rings and fuel rail rather than the injectors themselves)

hey Dumhed, were you answering in specific to TRXSleeper's case or mine?

cause mine has no conversion.

what could be making the difference when starting cold or warm? When my car is cold it starts fine.
