Most people know that it is illegal to have a BOV that vents into atmosphere, i am wondering whether the newer Blitz BOVs would get around this as they come with a little filter attachment that the air passes through when vented.

Anyone know?

the mixture problem will still be there, so technically they'd still be illegal for the emissions reasons, but they might fool some cops :)

I think I will just stick to hiding it down behind the front bar where the windscreen washer bottle goes. My number plate covers that hole so unless it is unbolted, it should be very hard to see, but in a good spotfor sound. Thanks DumHedfor the reply.

i got that little filter thing on my car.
its for the newer one but fits perfect with the older version.
Emmision is still wacked to i doubt that id be legal.

trumpet vs pod adapter, same characterisics. idling probs.
sound - huge difference. the pod thing quitens it down heaps and the bov sound weak as if i'm running only 2psi of boost. with the trumpet it sounds like i'm running 20psi of boost.. damn loud.

though i'm making a custom adapter so i can plumb it back. the idling is givin me the shits especially after a quick bosst dump..

plus i've fully boxed my filter so its all legal -ish...

QUESTION IS..
if i boced it. similar to this
http://members.optusnet.com.au/saintpoi ... C00830.jpg
but with thicker material and looks more solid and cleaner. :D
(sorry dude <saintpoida> ) using the clark rubber gear,
IS THIS CONSIDERED LEGAL or is the emission still fucked therefore its ILLEGAL

cos if its still illegal then i might as well just half box it as i've lost the fluttering sound with the filter fully boxed...

If I were going to seal in POD filters to make them legal I would be tryin as hard as possible to do it like the purple GTR 'GRACER'.

That car has a perspex box with the two POD filters inside with a ram ait intake pipe feeding into the box. I spose you would want to make sure that there was plenty of air getting to the box otherwisw you would just have an expensive and cool looking air box.

Looking for pics now...

I also wonder if it would be legal for the BOV air to be vented into this box? It wouldn't fix the idle problems though so and wouldn't be loud so maybe it's not worth it.

Perhaps only good as a temporary thing where you can put on a pipe from the BOV outlet to the box when you need to. Maybe to clear defects?

that looks good. perspex top..
i think i'll make one of those.
i had one in my civic minus the perspex :D

with the BOV
because mine is down on the waterbottleside and its pointing down.
it takes me less than 5 minutes to replace the adapters, from under the car.

trumpet = loud
pod = quiet

which ever mood i'm in. if i feel like terorisng some v8s then trumpet it is...

but i'll be making an adapter so i can run a hose back to the inlet.
this way i can have

LOUD
QUIET
and PLUMB BACK

:D

In theroy you should be able to vent the the bov into the enclosed box as the main concern with them is emmisions i have read somewhere that only the stock type of bov is legal regardless if it is a plumback or vents to the atmosphere

it's the emissions caused by the fuelling being messed up while the BOV is venting, not the actual air coming out that's the problem though.

Venting into the airbox doesn't solve that cos the air is still being sucked through the Airflow meter which is what caused the ECU to give the wrong mixture.
The BOV has to vent back into the intake piping *after* the AFM for the ECU to be able to keep mixtures correct.

This is the actual reason (apart from noise) that they're illegal, but most cops (and a lot of drivers) assume that it's the air venting that's the emissions concern.

I think it's partly due to it being a fire hazard. Older engines (carby) tended to backfire through the intake on occasion, which could set the paper or oiled foam element on fire quite easily.
