they are the sound of the BOVs from the fast and the furious. not number 2 :)

ronnie lim in NZ (i think) has one on his monster integra. they sound awesome

yeah it will if you set it to hard. set if soft and it will vent at lower pressures

I have a Greddy type S - flutters nicely, not overly loud, but extremely credible for the street.

Not a fan of the HKS - ptchew ptchew sound, and mates Blitz one is ordinary aswell.

You can actually hear the chamber close, and the metal flap thing go *tink- when it seals its self. Hard to explain in a line of text I guess.

2 totally differen things that do totally different things.. ok half you people dont evan know what makes what noises

A BOV releases pressure in the inlet so the pressurised air doesnt push back onto your turbo causing it to stall or slow down...

a wastegate prenets over boosting an external wastegate should sound like an exhaust wiht no muffle rcause httas all it is exhaust gas..

now im sick of people saying wastegates make bov osunds when chnging gears

my car is na and i know the difference between these too.

atmo bov = rice

plumb it back give it more boost why waste air you cooled through for 1k plus fmic by venting it to cound cool...

gfb stealth fx... best of bost worlds, and it takes a bit of boost for it to open, so here comes the wastegate flutter if you don thit more than 6psi

(on my car anyway)

GFB Stealth FX as well. on my mates S15 .. sounds hectic ..
but for some reason it doesnt sound as loud as when he first got it =// its vented to full atmo btw ..

FFS,the fluttering noise you idiots all seem to love so much is reversion,and is a BAD thing.

just like you wouldn't deliberately drive into potholes with your hektik chromies,why do you want to deliberately fuck up your turbo by stressing it's wheels and shaft everytime you lift off from full boost,just to hear that sik 'woop woop wooping'?

one of the best BOV's on the market is the trust type R. huge valve,and reliable operation,with the option of plumbing back into the intake,like you should ideally be doing on an air flow metered car.

Even though this thread is over 1 year old, i'll put my vote in for the Trust Type R also.

I got my Type R because no matter how far my modification process takes me, i will never have to upgrade because of a leaking BOV.

They are designed to flow large amounts of boost so in my application at the moment it's actually pretty quiet, even though it vents to the atmosphere.

how much larger - physically - are they than the type s? mines squeezed into a small spot but id love a more reliable type r

Iain,

I haven't seen the type-S in the flesh,so i can't say,but the type-R is about 5" high,and roughly 3" in diameter overall. you could fit it into the general area of where your std BOV mounts if you are careful with the plumbing.
you can also plumb them back into your inlet plubming from that location if you're willing to get some custom pipework done,which is what I will do on my next 14.
