Post subject: | Opinions on GTiR |
Hi All, Looking for some constructive opinions on the GTiR. Now that I've sold the 180, I'm looking for something a bit different... Whats the difference in the year models? 1990 start at around $17k, and 94's are starting in low 20's. Whats the difference between the models besides the age and price? Any reason to buy a 94 model if a 90 has the same amount of klms? Any particular weakness? (mechanically) Cheers, -Dan |

hey mate, i got a gti-r back in my motherland leb, drove it for 4 years, 91 model, ill say it now and always, thats one quick bullet speed car!!! naah there isnt much difference, hardly any i think, just some better minor mods in engine, but body wise, exactly the same. get the 91 or 92 model, its cheaper for u if it has the same k's as the 94 one if there both in same condition |

Strengths: top engine, overall size good for the city, tyres are cheap Weaknesses: under, under and more under, clutch replacement means dropping the whole driveline out, parts are not common. the GTiR was built with a mind to taking on GT-Four celicas, but never really made it. they're not bad as a road car,but if you want 4WD I'd honestly be steering you towards a mitsubishi. true, but the price of a GTiR is around 15 grand, a Mr Bitchy on the other hand is on the heavier side of the wallet !! |

Yeah im in the same thoughts aswell. Im selling my 200, and hopefully get a descent car buy July due to property investment. Im tossing between S15 or GTIR. S15 looks awesome, and GTIR has plenty of grunt as i have tested quite a few. One question, the T28 turbo of GTIR is the same as S2 200..??? Just wondering if its a roller bearing... etc...? Can anyone confirm..?? My next motor will be another SR20 FOR SURE...! |

Similar to 200's turbo, larger exhaust housing, non-bb. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. thanks for the info! |

yep,the GTiR turbo is similar to the one on the S14,but runs a larger A/R exhaust housing,as Chanboy said. the engine has potential,it's a real shame what's around it is so average. if I was you,I'd be going for an S15. the GTiR has nothing on it,other than price. if money is an issue, you may as well stick with an S13,as the GtiR is really step backwards from a silvia for a street car. even an early WRX would be a better choice. I would not say a step backward, rather a step sideways, but that early WRX wont keep up with the gtir... A friend of mine is doing high 11's (so yes they have potential!!) An s15 would be a better option, IF you can find one for 16G!! They are still pretty pricey...it all depends on WHAT YOU WANT.....if you want a late model RWD car and you dont mind the extra cash to get one....go the S15....if you want a budget pocket rocket with the "what is it " factor go the gtir......they are very different cars, but what do YOU want ?? |

i know that GTiRs do a lot of damage to S15s when they hit them from the back |

I've seen GTIR's smoked a lot of WRX's, S15, 180's and 200's in near standard form..! Bit of boost, exhaust, front mount will pin you quite hard in the back. I have also driven them, and its pretty nice to drive. I know that it like the 200 but which one? i thought that GTIR turbos are the same as S14A which is a roller bearing not ceramic..?? GTIR's has 182kw and 200's 147....... but i LOVE the shape of S15. id like to get my hands on one of 180SX back with S15 front end.. HOT... |
