Post subject:  L300/hiace engine conversion

sup everyone,

After viewing an 11 second L300, i have been inspired. This L300 looks dead stock , which is what amused me so much. I belive he was/is running an n/a 350 chev under the seats.

I have decided im going to do a simalar conversion to a hiace. I had a look on toymods and they say that the 1jz's and other inline engines are too tall. I was thinking of putting an SR or RB20 in one. I can get a 1jz dead cheap so i will probably end up going with that.

Are there any factors i should consider that could hinder my completion date?

I just wanna see the look on some guys face in my rear view mirror when i kill his SS :P

The problems would begin as soon as you remove the old engine.

Custom mounts gearboox mountings, the wait on a custom/ modified tailshaft, wiring issues would be plentyful. The list really just goes on and on.

I know of a few vans with 13b turbos and I have converted one to an SR20DET a few years ago when those lowered chromed up vans were all the rage, its still going to my knowledge.

I don't think it would be that hard to be honest.

Seeing that most Vans run a full chassis it would be easier for you to do engine conversions.

A friend of mine did a SR conversion in his Hilux without any real dramas.

I think Hilux's run the same family motor as the Hiace?

you won't get a 6 cyl into a hiace. not without MAJOR surgery to the firewalls and full replacement seating and floor panels, not to mention totally custom control linkages.
they're also monocoque construction,so there is no full chassis to work with.

the hiace runs the 2RZ in petrol form, which is a fairly tall 4cyl. you have a LOT of space for the gearbox and diff, but room between the front wishbones and under the engine cowl is somewhat limited. an SR20 or 3SGTE would go in without huge work.

personally,I've looked at townaces before hiaces for this sort of thing. the late models run a 3SFE,which means a W series gearbox and an S series engine are already there, making a 3SGTE (gt four celica engine) an easy swap. they're more comfortable to drive as well.

if you choose to go the L300 route a 4g63 out of an evo lancer or a vr4 is a straight swap as they are basically the same engine (4g...)
