Hi guys, I was wondering what security devices you have for your 180s?

Also are their recommended brands for both immobilisers and alarms and places to get them installed and ofcourse for cheap?

What about kill switches and how do they work (i.e go on and off)?

Thanks

Most people would have http://www.brant.com.au since there were a couple of group purchases. They provide members with (from memory) 10% off.

Kill switches are just ghetto immobilizers - they interrupt one of the vital circuits (fuel pump, starter motor etc..). They can either be normal switches, or a cool idea I saw in autosalon - you can use a m,agnetically operated switch. I forget what it's real name is, but you hide this lisste diode-sized thing somewhere in your car (i.e. behind the roof trim), then while you're starting the car, you hold a magnet up near where the thing is hidden and voila! She starts. no magnet = seemingly immobilzed engine :D

The only downer is that if they're already in your cabin, they can probably pop the bonnet and find the relay and bypass it... Unless you've hidden it well......

If you want cheap. remove your ignition coil when you leave your car, if you want security get a brandt.

I had a look at the Boomerang car alarm, and its as useful as a pig in a goat farm. just remember you get what you pay for.

One of the better immobilisers are the ones where a circut has to be phisically completed by touching a screw (or whatever) while starting the car... very effective, but it wont save your stereo or rims etc.

again, you get what you pay for.

Most insurance companies either insist in having Brant or give you a discount if you have one fitted.

All depends how much your willing to invest into your alarm system.

If you have a good system or a tv, i recommend you get dark tints. The legal limit is 35%, but if your cars older then 10 years old. I dont think there is a limit for tints.

Tracking systems are always an advantage, but if its kept a few levels underground, theres not much it can do either.

End of the day, your alarm system isnt going to stop a hectic thief from stealing something if they really wanted it. For all you know, it might be the person who installed your alarm for you.

And on that lovely note: There's also nothing to stop some prick tilt-traying your pride and joy away...
