Car: 180SX -- soon
I'll be turning 17 soon and im gettin 10 grand for my first car

im keen to get a 180sx... my brother has a s4 rx7 and he rekins with that money im best to look at buying a 180 with a CA18 rather than an SR20.

he rekins that for that price i can get a better quality car if i get a CA rather than an SR... what do you all think?

also he rekins that CA's can make pretty much as much power as an SR... watd u think?

First off, welcome to silviansw.com!

SR's make more power stock... There was a thread or two not too long ago about this very debate (and a number of them before that), try a search - they're sure to be kicking around with more than enough information. ;)

oh well looks like theres going to be spare parts around either way (i'll keep my eye on the forsales section for p plater wrecking their car)lol

get whatever you can afford for $10000, wont be the best car around for that price but for the money your looking at a very average sr (silvia as i've never seen an sr 180 go for 10) or an average ca. have a look whats forsale and see what you can afford.

welcome anyway.

Also, as with any car, dont rush and get the first car you see, Chances are a better car will be available with patience. Obviously keep an eye out for oil leaks or diff leaks. body work, on a CA check that there is no leaking from the rocker cover (as with any car), check interior condition etc.

And a grand saved on getting an auto, is 2 spent getting a manual... be sure of what you want from the get go! Sunroof, Digital climate comntrol, hicas what ever. Then you can make a reailistic judgment of the worth of the car you want... and dont just get a car cos your brother thinks its cool!

you can get more mods for your money with a CA, but you need less mods to get you there in an SR.

But thats my opinion :-?

I strongly suggest you don't get a turbo RWD car for your first car.
Get a CA N/A or SR N/A for that matter, save the money on the inital price and learn to drive.
After a few years once you have saved up, upgrade the motor if you still have the car and like it or go and buy a turbo.

the s13 series is very nice, and especially at the price, but these guys all have a point. i went from fwd hondas to SR20 180sx, after driving for 5 years...and this...Image

get a feel of driving first....

but if you really wanna get a s13....your brother is right....a CA s13 would be in better condition than a SR s13 (silvia or 180sx)...shop around dude....happy hunting :)
