I have been having some really weird problems with my 180 (quite a few guys seem to be having the same problems as me but no one knows what is it).

Where is the knock sensor (right spelling?) located on a sr20det 180?

Spoke to a guy lastnight who was having the exact same problems as me (his got a GTiR). Basically when the car is flowed, up to 4500rpm everything seems alright, once its past that even though the revs climbs all the way to redline, there seems to be no power gain what so ever.

Can anyone post any diagrams or documentation of where the knock sensor is located?

Cheers guys! :)

i have the same shit  - redtop sr 180sx
are you positive its the knock sensor doing this?

when i first got the car from japan it pulled heaps hard through the rev range-now it pulls no where near as hard and when it hits 4500 it just takes a heap of air in and makes a whole bunch of noise without really doing anything

so yeah if anyone knows anything about this id love to hear

If you have a faulty knock sensor the following things will happen

1. Sensor informs the ECU that the engine is knocking
2. ECU retards the timing
3. Starts dumping in extra fuel

As a result the car will be running very very rich, I get about 200km from full tank and basically the car will behave the way I have mentioned above

Same problem with mine... except for me its only happening once a week at most... but that's probably just the beginning !! else its run very well and richish (is 12-13L per 100km normal for the non vvt sr20det ???)

When it does have a bad day, it feels like it has to really struggles to rev out to redline and seems to be running 0.4 bar instead of 0.6. And yes makes a nice roar but you're not going anywhere.

I've found that switching my car off for a minute and then on again fixes the prob for that trip.

So anyone out there know where this knock sensor thing is? Is it something I can just clean with metho and put it back in? And how much does it cost new?

I think its a non service-able sensor.

its located between cylinder 2 and 3 above the oil line (so I got told).
I still havent had the chance to replace it, got other problems with my ECU currenty

Freaking electronics!!
