Post subject: | Type X questions |
hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone can clarify for me the main differences between a standard 180sx and a Type X. Apart from the bodykit and tail-lights, are there any other differences, like engine specs? cheers |

Different dash, seats, interior, steering wheel, etc. The engine is a blacktop s13 type, which may be slightly different to the redtop in certain aspects, but has the same quoted power/torque figures. This is NOT the same as an s14 blacktop which has VCT. |

They are also supposed to be of a lower build quality as they are not manufactured by nissan, but another company contracted out by nissan to make them. This is why they were sold along side the later s14 range. I'm sure you can get 92 180s with ABS? |

not all type x's have ABS - i had to wait for a while for one to come up at auction in japan with ABS.. it was a factory option, not a standard, same as HICAS (for example) the type x has the updated interior (seats, dash, console, digital odometer, steering wheel, gear knob, etc, etc, etc), full body kit and round rear lights (front bar, side skirts, rear bar, rear bar extensions, spoiler), same engine as a 94+ S13 (as in black top non-vvt SR20 with the shitbox T25g...) some ppl argue its not worth the extra $$ over a 94 model, but i think it is.. the interior is a shitload better than an older 180, and the bldykit and rear lights make the body look much more modern than an older one... plus they are much rarer than any other S13, S14 or S15!!! i have only seen about 5 other GENUINE type x's on the road in sydney in the past year i've had mine.. i see more S14's or S15's than that in one weekend! and the type x is holding its value really good compared to other imports.. they still fetch over 20k for a good example! these days more expensive than a S14.. i love my type x!!! |

Type x means the Turbo model There was a type S or something like that which is exaclty the same ut in non turbo form. So it is not just a type X that has the late model look. There was one last type which included the sunroof, but i cant remember what the Letter was....... |

no sorry. 1994-1998 had s13 black-top sr-20 and ABS was an option as far back as 1990 was standard in 1996 in 1996 there was the na 180sx in the forms of type S and type G these run in sequence to the type x and type r the only differences was the options which included full bodykit and sunroof, etc. |

Rumour has it that the main reason why the 180SX late Model came back out on the Jap scene was because the "S14 Series I" was not selling as good as Nissan Had hoped. thus the re-release of the face lifted 180SX to re-boost the Jap market. Meantime, S14 I & II and 180SX actually overlap each other with simontaneous releases. Natually 180SX sold better then the S14, thus the extended release of further 2 yrs 96-98. When the re-release of the New 180SX came out (Aug or Oct 96...sorry!) there was 4 models :- Type S - which was N/A Type R - Standard trim, (ie no side body kit, lower grade stereo etc...) Type X - Is the one we all love But there was unlimited amount of options available in the Jap market from Nissan/Nismo rims, exhaust, suspension, different body bits, weather shield, aluminium door rails with luminating 180SX etc.... which could be bought for all models. [Type R & type X is like the Auz's S15 Spec R and Spec S resepctively] Later, before they were to end the production of the face lifted 180SX. Nissan also brought out a limited Model "Type G"...which has the limited Yellow paint, fully optioned.... same as the yellow paint used on the Limited Factory made Sil-80. (The release of the Sil-80 has another story behind it too!) The Main difference between the Pre 96 and Post 96(late model) is :- - Computerised Trip computer - Wind screen wiper operation switch - Air bag steering wheel - interior - trim design and the seats - Ecu - pre 93, 94-96, post 96 are all slightly different in tuning and Ecu harnless brace configeration - Slightly Better handling (not sure whether it is Stiffen chassis or slight different suspension setup, have not research this close enough to tell...anyone?) everything else is pretty much the same...engine components are the same....but I do think that the post 96 does have ABS as standard, not 100% sure tho. Am not a big fan of ABS....so! Sorry for the long ass post guys.....but I love my 180's and Sil-80's hehehhhee!!! |

Sure is. Actually with all this part swapping / overlap with the S14 Im surprised some of the top of the line 180sx's didnt have an S14-derived 4 piston brake package. |
