when my Head Gasket went I decided to get everything I wanted done at once so I spent $4500. for that I got the 100,00km service, auto to 5spd conversion, new radiator plus heater plus all hoses, turbo timer and cruise control. The head gasket was leaking and air presure was getting into the cooling system so the hoses started to burst, first the one to the turbo and then to the heater. The car has gone very well in the 12 months since the major work and I love the manual gearbox.

It is hard to tell whant price to expect just for the headgasket but the following should help. The head gasket kit was $350.00, The head surface grind service was $90.00 and the labour for Repair and Clean Head Gasket ws $240.00. That give $680.00 but you will also need new oil etc. As the timing belts is only $40.00 it is probably worth getting that done at the same time.

Well the head was gone, so was the 3rd and 4th pistons. (the rings were broken)

I purchased a new head gasket from nissan for $91. I bought a reco head (new springs, machined) for $350.
The timing belt was in very good condition as well :)

But now i need to fully rebuild the engine. forged pistons are costing me around $1300.

Im getting a fully rebuilt engine for under $3000, including

Forged pistons - 20thou oversized
Crank shot peaned and balanced
conrods shot peaned
Brass button clutch
Billet lightened fly wheel
466cc injectors

For $4500 thats alot of money. could have got an sr20 front cut (including gearbox) and had that dropped in for under $4500.

Have you considered getting some cryogenic freezing done on your parts while they are apart?

Sw an article in Zoom a while ago, because the items hold their shape better afterwards the engine will generally make more power afterwards.

$10 a kg I think it was...

Yeah thats interesting that cryogenic stuff, its so damn cheap too and apparently very effective, anyone used it? would be cheap enough to throw ALL the engine parts in before a rebuild.
