Hi guys, im new to the nissan scene, and im very interested in selling my familia and getting a 180sx.

i've been doing a little research but i can't exactly pin point a few answers.

i've decided im going to get a type R or X rps13, what i want to know is when did these come into production? i know type X were post 1996 but were they also pre 1996?

What were the differences between the type R and type X? Front bar, side skirts, wing, rear tail lights... anything interior wise?

otherwise, anything else i should be looking for specifically with imported cars?

cheers

Just quickly RPS13s came out in 1991 and were the first of the 180s to have the SR20DET. You're on the money with the differences. The interior also had updated trim.

Use the search function because this has been covered at least a million times before. Like this for example -

Welcome to the club too. :P

I think he means type R as in RPS13 instead of just PS13?

first ive seen it too- seems to be a budget type x - no rims, no bodykit ect but still turbo
knowing japan though they prolly have heaps of them and put kits, rims on them and call them type x- youd prolly never tell

I was in Japan in July this year.....

I saw 4 Type X's on the way back in the bus from the Twin-rings Motegi raceway within half an hour mate. That's an hour or so north of Tokyo...make sure you get the Shinkansen if you ever attempt to go there as it's much quicker than the bus on train tracks and the locals in Motegi don't speak a word of english.

From Nagasaki (far south) to Sendai (north) I saw maybe 2.

Check out the Nissan History site - http://history.nissan.co.jp/180SX/index.html

Type G
Type S
Type X (I assume)

Use Google language translator if you find the letters a bit hard to read.

I found that Series 6-8 RX-7's were far more common actually.

NA S15's in Japan also have 5 stud Type X style rims from the factory. Infact, I didn't see an S15 with the factory 5 spoke wheels like here in OZ so they must be all NA's....hehe
