My 180 used to be a auto which was converted to manual (S13 Silvia box). Do I need to change the ECU? I was under the impression it didnt matter. I tried to do a ECCS error test on the ECU which came up with error 55, which basically means other malfunctions. There was also codes for the automatic gearbox sensors. I am just worried that those sensors dont exist anymore....so it will affect anything?

Error 55 is all clear, which means that there MAY be other undetectable problems but it actaully means all clear as far as i know, also as far as i know the auto ECU works fine on manuals, unlike say most toyotas hahaha

I was told it do matters abit! Therefore, instead of changing to a stock manual ECU, might as well get those aftermarket computer management!

Auto and manual use different tps sensors but other wise all the other ones are the same. As a result there is a different plug in the auto/manual looms to suit.

I was under the impression that the auto used a sub computer spliced into the loom and as such and auto and manual ecu are the same.

As Dave says there is a sub computer that needs to stay in. Stuff like the speedo and tach signals go through it on the way to the dash

Yeah we never changed the ECU, not as though we didn't think about it though - I was on the phone to a certain guru around here asking his opinion.

Have you done the conversion and now can't start your car?

I think that depends on which computer you have.

no its not that. The start starts up fine and is drive-able but you can tell its not running at 100%.
My have some really weird problems which no one really seems to know what can cause it.

Can I plug in a computer from a manual S13 Silvia into my 180? This computer has HKS chips and other goodies installed.

What about the wiring harness? I am guessing all that will need to be changed.

There are minor differences in the codes that various nissan ECUs throw but by and large they are exactly the same, same with toyota to, usually the newer ECUs can just give you more codes but the ones that are there are the same.
Thats just from my experience though.

Does this mean I can plug in a S13 Silvia ECU (sr20) into the 180 (sr20)?
The 180 still has the automatic wiring harness. Reason I want to plug in this Silvia ECU is because it has HKS chips in it and at the same time hopefully solve all the weird problems the car is suffering from.

I think what you are saying is right. Replace the HKS ecu with a factory Nissan one before you try anything else.

So did I but when I carried out the ECCS test on the ECU, I realised that there was quite a few codes relating to the automatic box......now that the automatic box does not exist and all the sensors are unplugged, I am just thinking that maybe this is the reason why the car is behaving funny.
