That would be my first guess!, also check for corrosion on the radiator core too, this can interfear with the flow of liquid.

Yes, it be alright for Jap temps (ie zero , what's a hot day in Japan 20c ?) but even a bit of hard drving will get the needle up on the stock sr20 rad.

the stock RB20 radiator is double the thickness of the stock SR20 and CA18 ones.

Even with the RB radiator in S13s they tend to overheat because there's not enough clearance to fit decent sized fans, or to flow the air out past the engine.

The only way to get semi decent results in my opinion is to remove the a/c gear, and mount two large thermo fans on the front of the radiator.
Also, the radiator should be mounted as far forward as possible, and use an RB radiator at absolute minimum.

The other thing to consider is putting more ventilation in the front bar.
A front mount cooler will block off a lot of the airflow, and in a 180 there's not much flow available to start with.

On my car I replaced the Silvia plastic grille with an open one for more flow, and even on the track I don't have any temperature problems (I'm using an S15 radiator, which is the same thickness as the S13 one, a larger single thermo fan, and I have a big front mount cooler)
The aircon condenser has been removed, and the grille between the headlights now flows air straight to the radiator, bypassing the intercooler.

not really.

you'd have to get a custom condenser made up I think, and put it where the stock IC goes or something.
As soon as you do anything like that you're also up for the cost of re gassing the aircon too.

I have an RB25 radiator for my CA. I've taken off the engine fan and put an old VN commodore thermo fan that I bought for $40 from a wrecker.

The fan's shrouding had to be cut abit (did it with a jigsaw) due to the space between the radiator and the engine.

I still have the aircon condenser between the FMIC and the radiator so its not getting all the air flow it could get.

After having a few track days of drifting with high revs and low speeds, my car simply does not heat up and I am very happy with the way the temp is.

problem is there's no way to fit that setup in front of an RB engine!
