because the chassis in the 180sx wasn't updated. simple as that.
underneath,they were still an S13.

Also, after 1995 other companies began producing 180s for nissan, as nissan switched all their factories to produce s14s. The 180SX was so popular with the japanese that they contracted other companies to continue building them while nissan built the s14 alongside.

edit: they would also be rps13 and not rs13.

rps13 existed before 94....just have a look at the chassis numbers, there's the rs13 rps13 krps13 i know the K is for hicas, but not sure what the others stand for

You're both dead right.

rps13 was the sr20 version so any factory sr20 180 will have an rps13 or krps13 code.

Dem japs love their hatches, thats one of the reasons why both the 180sx and the honda teggie lasted longer then a normal japanese car, in manufacturing terms.
