Post subject:  BlakeSilvia's S13 Turbo Trackcar

Hiya guys, long time no see, well with the purchase of my new car, I'll be letting my old silvia run out of rego. I've never really had the intention of doing this, but only seems fair to keep such a shit car to fix up.

I'm in the middle of writing a full buildup, but in the mean time I'll give you guys the simple details. My idea is to build up a sr20de+t track car, utilising the higher compression engine to achieve ~200kw and play with it at wakefield.

It is a 1990 Nissan silvia
NA s14 SR20de engine
coilovers etc strut braces

It has problems , front end is all smashed up and needs a new gearbox (shattered 3 gears and throw bearing)

Recently just purchased second hand
Highmount manifold
Oil lines
front mount intercooler
S14 gearbox
ballbearing t28 with a genuine 33000km

Ideas

I'm thinking It would be a good idea to upgrade ignition, such as the purchase of a spitfire coilpack.
Seemwelding? Kinda not needed really?

More coming soon..
Can anyone sugest a good ecu combination? aftermarket or chipped?

Don't bother upgrading the coilpacks unless they're stuffed, even then, stock replacements are you usually sufficient.
You won't need to seam weld if all you're looking to do is get out on the track.
I think the best thing to do is to make the car driveable at least, don't worry about modding it yet, spend the money on tyres and track days.

Also, whats the deal with top mounting the t28? that means you bought a t2 flange top mount manifold, and there isn't a t2 flanged turbo worth top mounting, even if you were looking to upgrade later on. It also means you're getting custom cooler piping made up.

ECU depends on your budget, a nistune chip is the best value for money at the moment.

Turf the top mount and get something that mounts the turbo in the standard location.
All you are going to achieve by going topmount is having to pay heaps extra for custom dump, intake, cooler pipes whereas if you left the turbo in the standard location, you could buy off-the-shelf parts.
You need to take the approach of leaving things standard unless it is REALLY necessary to change them

Also you will struggle to get 200rwkw out of that turbo with that engine. The compression is too high to run the boost it will need to make that power.
To run the 15-17psi you will need to make 200, you will need to pull so much timing out that you will lose bucketloads of power

Dumhed couldn't get more than 160rwkw out of his due to this issue

Don't forget you have to tap the block for the lines for the turbo, which needs to be done with the engine out.

I've been researching the +T conversion a bit and it seems that, unless you are a mechanic, it is just as costly as a DET conversion.

That said, if there is anyone out there who wants to help me do it from start to finish for cheap/free, send me a PM. :D

since it'll be in pieces anyway, weld everything you can get to.

For reliability you'd be better off with a DET setup, but the DE+T will be ok if you do it right, and don't push it too hard (200rwkw is out of the question)

remember if u want to run coilpack setup you gotta install the CAS as well :)
topmount T28.. lol its even funnier when you see it in person. dont bother with top mounting it, its just for wank factor. (if that matters to you, get ext gate then  )

Make sure you 'plan' out the build from the get go and get as much advice from the people that know and have done what you are planning (as you are doing now).

It also pays to have an idea of what you want to achieve at the end ie is it 1:07 or 1:10 at Wakefield or a 200rwk car or is it just some fun at the track? This will help guide the build and hopefully have you doing it right first time.

By the sounds of things, turboing the DE is not the best idea. Play with the DE first and then if you really want 200rwk get a DET and drop it in.

was that on an DE+T or a DET engine? the latter is not a surprise, the former would be.

it is a de+t engine and what does that mean ^^^^^

what needs explaining? that 220kw atw isn't a surprise out of an SR20DET or that I'd be surprised that an SR20DE with a turbo bolted to it wouldn't be detonating, and doing it's best to melt it's internals trying to put out the same power as the proper turbo engine makes easily?

others have tried it,I've yet to see it work. but that's a discussion for elsewhere.

The topmount in my s13 is great, and with extra long braided lines it takes 15 mins to take the turbo off, good for gasket issues
