Sure they're not the smartest bunch, and always get in trouble, but the weekend comes, you have a few beers and watch stuff like that, and it makes you feel good inside.....that its not you playing 8)

But why waste your time watching the rest of the game when you could be out getting some track time on the weekends and have someone conveniently package all the good bits for you in one place? :D

P.s. I second the ouch motion!

what I like best out of that clip is how OLD most of it is. 80's matches mostly.
I guess noone hits hard anymore... they must be too afraid of being sent off for supposed high tackles.

as for rugby and league being harder than american football,I guess the guy who posted the clip never pulled pads on himself.
I played union for 5 years in CAS competition in high school, and american football for two years afterwards, and I got smacked around a hell of a lot more with the pads on than in the reputed rougher code with just a jersey on.
once you have a helmet over your head, and big pads on your shoulders, you feel invincible, and will make dives, and hits on people that you would never in your right mind consider doing if you (both) were unequipped.
the amount of times I pulled people to the ground by their heads, and did everything short of laying the boot in to get past the guy in front of me in the line,I would have been up on charges if I'd have been playing rubgy.

one little fact most people don't know about gridiron: once the ball is snapped, you can hit anyone, anywhere on the field,at any point during the play, with or without the ball, legally. gridiron can bring out your most sadistic tendencies.... :)

i thought union was just considered to be the dirtiest, cos of all the eye gouging, raking, stomping and nut sack grabbing while everyone is 'stacks on'

Meh, Nfl is hard yeah, but footy your allowed to ruck people, dont see anyone doing that in gridiron 8)
Which CAS school did you go to?

granted, but when you're a pissy little receiver or quarterback, and you have someone at least twice your size and weight who's damn angry and intent on doing everything short of tearing your head off to get the ball away from you,it's a little different to having a few guys stomp by while you're already on the ground, though I will admit that rucks can be pretty bloody. I got studded enough times to learn to release the ball the right way as quickly as possible on the occasions I had possession and was taken down.

as for my school,I went to Waverley College.

I'm a Waverley old boy as well. Class of '00. :)

if there's a rule against smashing quarterbacks,it was never called against me,and I've never seen it in pro games. I got my share of sacks, and was never called for unneccesary roughness. there are limits of course, you can't just walk up and snot someone in the head, but you can tackle and block as vigorously as you like :)

as for Waverley being soft, not that I really care, but I don't know,we seemed to win often enough from what I saw. we certainly dominated the swimming... and we've won ther rugby for the last 4 yrs straight afaik.

as for me,I left in '92.

btw, what was the story with the 'apples in the chapel' thing? our first XV called that in the lineout once, and it resulted in a brawl with your guys...

IIRC, its directed to the Knox boys.

Legend has it there was an older boy caught umm....giving it to a younger lad in the Knox Chappel, using apple sauce as lubrication. Don't know how true the story is, but those Knox boys (and every other CAS/GPS - except Waverlians of course) always seemed a tad on the queer side.

Watching that I reckon a fair few of those hits were high. Shoulder straight into the jaw can get a bloke into a lot of trouble.
