I love that section of HPI 5. you see a few Celsiors in it as well as the funky vans.
there are a few nice VIP cars, and the para para and visual show stuff was pretty cool.

personally,I reckon the whole daikoku thing is an awesome idea, which unfortunately wouldn't work here.
there's too much attitude in this country for car enthusiasts to ever get together regularly in an area like that without there being major problems.

well said justin ^^b

i reakon why cant we all gather together at a nice spot huge carpark somewhere, open air, on every weekend, and all be peaceful and respectful to one another and not worry about car theives and people with guns and gangs of the sort.... oh and police too.

the one thing i admire the most about the cops is the constant blind eye they turn to street drifting and drag racing. i mean in one of the videos they talk about how they have been drag racing here for years, in an industrial area - and cops never choosse to intervene. its pretty safe over there id assume too. in another segmant they had a bit on illegal street drifting, when someone had an accident, everyone helped out and luckily not much damage. but thats the price you pay - the same thing would happen on a track with walls

gotta admire the positive attitude to the japs - gotta love their culture, i mean if someone pulled over in a van like that, and started doing para para a few things would happen in sydney...

1. get bashed
2. get killed and his car stolen and parts sold off
3. get laughed at
4. get alot of defect stickers from cops
5. have alot of people complain about noise
6. all of the above, not necessarily in that order

exactly what I was getting at. the japanese don't have totally free reign when it comes to the car scene as is the popular image going around, but the truth is not all that far from what you see in the local and american videos doing the rounds.

the cops DO turn up to large gatherings, and DO arrest people. especially highway racers and street drifters. putting it simply, you do NOT want to be arrested in japan as a foreigner. even more so if you were caught drag racing or drifting on a public road.

the main differences between here and there are:

*the cars are not daily driven.
*when they are, they are generally taken out of town for the more dangerous stuff,or at least into less frequented areas, like bayside piers and industrial areas.
*people don't do burnouts on the main roads or in shop carparks, and don't cruise around with pumping stereos, yelling out the windows at passersby. you won't see drags from traffic lights either.
*the japanese are quite friendly and far from antagonistic towards each other. most competition you'll see is friendly, and the community all help each other when it's necessary.
*shop staff know their products and generally keep plenty of stuff in stock.
*you get proper service. people will actually go a long way out of their way to help you if you ask for something.
*go to a special event, like nismo festival or the AE86 festival back in march, and the prices of merchandise at the stalls are REDUCED from the usual ask.

we have a lot to learn.
