i give no sympathy for people who deliberately run red lights, or take that chance. People get killed doing that unnesessary act.

That and speeding in school zones, I have no sympathy for, although I have seen people in positions where it's been bloody dificult for them to avoid it, even myself, I went to go around a right hand turn at the Coles in Lindfield, as there was no red light shown on the traffic light I was watching, but at the last second I spotted the red light glowing bright and strong on another traffic signal, I hammered the brakes HARD, and managed to stop before the sensor for the red light trigger.

I double checked the 2 signals again before reporting the faulty signal to RTA, but if I had gone through, I would have been snapped as well, thankfully I spooted the still working signal that had a branch flapping in front of it.

For some fines, I agree they are unfair and just pure revenue, but red lights, school zones, I think are safety issues more-so than revenue, nd I would also be all for 100% coverage for red light cameras, and in Canberra, they have redlight+speed cameras in the same unit, thee are also a good move as well, makes people slow down near intersections instezad of speed up anticipating the yellow.

You guys aren't going to get any excuses from me (if that's what you are expecting).

Turbo_Brian, I agree 100% with what you said about it being a safety measure.

I think in the instance of red light cameras, yes, it is more safety rather than revenue. If people are aware that it is a 3 point and $375 fine, perhaps they will think why it is such a harsh penalty.

I now have 1 point for the next 6 months until my Green P's. Do the crime, pay the time.

Contextually, it was very late, I was on my way home, tired, and not paying attention. Someone could have been killed, suffice to say there was no-one at all else at the intersection however. Still a very, very stupid thing to do.

Pfft, try 11 months on 1 point 8)

I got done in my first week after getting my P's for going through an orange light. Highway saw me, pulled me up, $308 fine and 3 points.

As far as I am concerned I wasn't doing anything wrong. I would rather have got caught doing 30kph over the speed limit, at least then I would have known that I was doing the wrong thing and it was obvious.

I have to pay the fine by tomorrow or I get my 3rd notice, whatever that will be. Ah well.

I'm paranoid now when the lights go orange :(

yeah but the ruling is, if the lights go orange and you can stop without causing an accident (ie heavy braking) you have to stop.
