Post subject:  To CA or not to CA?

Hey all,

I am looking at getting a CA onevia for a daily/time attack and sometimes drift car. This CA has been rebuilt with forged internals and has a KKR430 turbo.

My drift car is an SR 180 with a 2871 so im getting used to that, I need to know if the CA is tough enough to handle oil surge and general thashing. I have also heard they have oil problems where too much oil gets to the head at high RPM, is this true? I will also be running an oil cooler, bigger radiator with the stock clutch fan and shroud to combat the cooling issues. I will also be running Saber series 2 guages with warning alarms for water/oil temp and oil pressure.

Also will it be too laggy for a circuit/drift setup? My SR gets full boost (17psi) at around 4200 RPM so needs a bit of clutch kicking but that’s ok. Will it be similar for this CA?

Are the boxes weaker than the SR boxes at all?

Cheers
Kirk

can't comment on the CA with any authority as I have never owned one.

I would be bloody suss on a KKR turbo, however. Don't count on it lasting very long, expect oil leaks and shaft play from day one.

Also, a KKR330 had nice response and power (200+) when connected to a SR20 with stock cams.

I would expect a KKR430 to be somewhat laggy. Not withstanding the poor build quality and short life expectancy of the turbo, a 430 + CA combo doesn't sound like the right choice for someone who wants a responsive car. You might get some nice peak power out of it though.

for reference, my KKR needed mods to its waste gate flap to ensure it could close correctly from day 1, and then lasted less than 3000 kms before leaking oil into the exhaust causing masses of smoke.

When removed it had significant shaft play and is now hanging on the wall of broken parts.

Maybe I was unlucky. Maybe KKR turbos are shit.

Keep in mind they cost about 700 bucks new, and you get what you pay for.

Same gearbox and tailshaft as an SR20, just a different bellhousing.
