hey guys, was just reading this thread

http://forum.silviansw.com/viewtopic.php?t=32814

and was wondering what exactly a jasma muffler looked like and if anyone knew anything more about it..

from what i understand/have read it seems like they're a 'legal upgrade' muffler in japan which conforms to jasma standards.. but does that mean heaps of sports cars over there have them? i would have thought all those young jap hoons would have 3" straight throughs etc lol..

oh and sometimes i see these mufflers on ae86s which have a nice 3" tip but the muffler is kind of large, looks stockish but nice, would that be jasma approved? (will try to find a pic..)

thanks! oh and not sure if this is entirely in the right section...

JASMA is just a standards system. You're almost on the money, but try not to think of it as a brand. Just because something has JASMA stamped on it, doesn't mean that it is of high quality (but it can be).

Plenty of no-name jap items carry the stamp, it just means that it meets the JASMA standard. I've read before what the acronym means but it eludes me at the moment.

It actually stands for 'The Japan Automotive Muffler Association'

and yes i notice that it doesn't fit the acronym properly, but the Japs are strange sometimes

From their website

JASMA wrote:
JASMA, sincere approach to the problem of environmental noise, high performance mufflers for automobiles, JASMA the standard system, to meet the main legal restrictions on vehicle and traffic law and safety standards for road transport vehicles, cars on a voluntary basis Check your local noise, KURIEITEIBU corporate organizations work to promote the automotive aftermarket muffler for high performance while considering the social environment noise.

If you insert 'sports' into the explanation of the acronym,as it is officially known, then all letters are accounted for.
Japanese Aftermarket Sports Muffler Association = JASMA.

it's a standard that is their equivalent of being engineered for road useage.

Had a JASMA approved exhaust on my car. Honestly, not sure what the last owner did with the car, but damn there were so many patched up holes on observation when I replaced with it a three 3.5" straight exhaust.

All JASMA approved exhausts I've heard in the past sound hot!..not overally loud, but still gives the car a nice deep/mean note.

Are these Hachis in Australia or in Japan?

If it's here, alot of workshops can supply you with the muffler that you've just described!..eg. Lukeys.
