Upgrade that engine into the bin

You will never get good results out of a CA18DE.

To make any kind of decent power with a DE, you need to spend several thousand dollars.

You're much better off just getting an SR20DET engine. It will be really well behaved (unlike a heavily modded DE), and you can extract a lot more power for a lot less money.

Not needed.

Not needed. Waste of money.

If she can't have a turbocharger, thaty means she's on her P's,which also means no mods that are worthwhile.

fitting a pod filter,a cat back exhaust and winding in a bit more advance to the ignition timing isn't going to do much. you'll hardly even notice the difference.

sell the car and buy something else that already has power that is on the P plate legal list. lotus elises are P plate legal. so are XR6's. so are S15 autechs. so are MANY MANY others.

or put up with the slow piece of crap she currently owns until she's allowed to swap an SR20DET into it.

a CA18DE is good for landfill. even if you throw ten grand at it rebuilding it to support high revs and put in all the NA power work necessary it still won't be stronger than a standard SR20DET and it'll be almost undriveable on the road. that's what's necessary to make a CA18DE any better than std.
huge cams, lots of compression, headwork, and a strong bottom end that'll handle something like 9k rpm all day long,as that's where you'll need to keep it to get any kind of power from the thing.

in short: wait,or buy something else. those are her choices.

the best bang for buck n/a upgrade path is to go to an SR20DE, but then you need to change the gearbox too so it's not really worth it.
