Post subject: | SAAB Turbo |
Hey, my brother is considering getting a SAAB 900SE. Its a 2 litre DOHC turbo. The turbo on it is pretty small. Anybody have any ideas re possible swaping it with an T28 or by the looks of things a T25 would be an upgradee. from the info I've found it has the Garrett T03 housing but I'm not too familiar with my turbo info. Heres a link with a little info: http://web.inter.nl.net/users/turbo-tea ... /turbo.htm Any ideas? |

before we even consider the turbo upgrade question, the main one needs to be asked: why the hell is he considering buying a saab in the first place? they don't do anything well except drain your wallet. Justin... |

What experience have you had with SAABs? I've been trying to get feedback from SAAB forums but as you could imagine there not that big. |

I'll admit that I don't know a whole lot about them, but have driven a few and worked on a couple before today, and I was far from impressed. Saabs are a quite average fwd package. the steering is unneccesarily vague, the handling is basically crap, and they don't brake very well either. the 2.4l job I drove last felt more like a 1.4l though it managed to torque steer like a 2.4l when it actually got some revs on board. the turbo version I would expect to be something like a luxury cordia turbo. wallowy and vague, with lane changes just a press of the throttle away. but hey,at least euro snobs will like you,and it'll have a cushy interior... that'll be all it'll have going for it. as for the turbo, just being a T3 garrett doesn't mean that a skyline turbo or similar will bolt straight on. you'd want to have a look at it first to make sure there aren't odd housings,or bits of pipework and such on it. and again, increasing torque in a car that already torque steers isn't a particularly good idea. if he REALLY wants something european and FF,get a renault clio sport or a previous model 306 peugeot. and save your bickies for the running costs. They are very similiar indeed, but half the power double the price. It would be a good car if I was 60 No offence to the older generation |

Sorry for the late reply but my mouse stopped working. I've tried a 1997 SAAB, 2.0 turbo, it actually had not bad power. The handling and response is shit house though but I guess it wasn't brought out as a sports car and really did have smooth driving. My main concern is, is the engine a good engine. The SR is a strong engine and it has proved itself, but I have no idea about SAABs and ain't sure of their history. The stock cooler on this car actually is fairly large (for stock) and its a front mount the length of the radiator and about a thrid of the hight. From what I could find I THINK its running 10psi but the acutal dash boost gauge had the readings of 'LOW/MEDIUM/HIGH' which doesn't tell me much. |
