BitTorrent is a p2p (peer-to-peer) program, the program you download is the client program that you run on your computer.

What you do is download a *.torrent file of a file that you want to download (e.g. from us it would be s13_manual.pdf.torrent), that torrent file contains information on the file, which server controls the torrent (called the Tracker) and checksums to verity the file is complete etc.

You load the torrent file into your BitTorrent program (I use one called Azureus), once you select the directory you want to save the files to, it connects to the Tracker to see who else is sharing this file / downloading it, that way everyone is uploading and downloading to each other and sharing the bandwidth, rather than one particular server sending to everyone (i.e. like me hosting the files on the SilviaNSW website).

I hope that explains it clear enough, if you read the BitTorrent website you can get a more technical overview with diagrams and everything

I will setup a Tracker on SilviaNSW tonight or tomorrow if I get the chance

BitTorrent was originally created to share Linux distributions, but it has grown EXTREMELY quickly and now their are litterally hundreds of clients available and its applications are varied. Even game companies like Valve (Half Life, Counter-Strike) and Blizzard (Warcraft etc) are starting to use it to roll out updates for their games and even to release new games online !

Sure thing, tracker is setup, I will start sharing tonight

SilviaNSW BitTorrent Tracker is now up and running and I am sharing all the main manuals that I currently have:

http://www.silviansw.com/tracker/

Once you have a BitTorrent client installed, all you need to do is go to the above URL and under the name column click on the torrent you want, it your browser will then download the *.torrent file and open it in your BT client and ask you where to save it... easy as that.

P.S. The whole idea of this is that when you finish downloading it you leave it open for a while so that you can share it with others, thus sharing the bandwidth/load between everyone wanting the file.. makes life alot easier

No I already have the Nissan S15 Workshop manual October 2000, SM0E-1515GO. I've been told that there is another manual something along the lines of "engineers manual"??? Does anyone actually know if this exists or has someone got this confused with the workshop manual?
Cheers.

Thanks for posting up the PDFs.. Really pleased to get hold of a couple of them.

In a fit of insanity this evening, I've tidied up the S13 180sx PDF. I now have a new version that:

- Is searchable. It's no longer just images, thanks to a demo version of some awesome OCR software (www.irislink.com). If the OCR has failed, the original images are still displayed on screen, so no critical values will have changed (e.g. turning 3mm to 8mm).
- Removed four hundred blank pages. Don't think I lost any real pages in the process. Let me know if I did. For me, the original PDF does things like going FA-12, blank, blank, blank, FA-16 (original PDF pages 509-513).
- Sections put into alphabetical order, leaving the general information section at the start.
- The pages are now in numerical order.
- Bookmarks for the start of each section.
- Landscape pages oriented correctly, so you don't have to turn your monitor on its side to read them.
- Saved to be compatible with Acrobat version 5.0 or later.
- Final version significantly smaller than original.

I tried adding it to the SilviaNSW BT tracker, but it told me I wasn't authorised (no surprise there). Can someone give me the details for adding a new torrent? Alternatively, I can put it on my server, and whoever makes the torrents can directly download it from me first.

SStteevvee.

I've thrown the manuals and stuff up on my server.. If it comes back, and if you can, download them via bittorrent.. Otherwise, go here:

http://vacated.net/carstuff/

I only have the manual for the 180SX, some of the other manuals (like the GReddy boost controller), and a few other Nissan/180sx related PDFs I've found.

If someone else has copies of the other manuals, PM me with a location, I'll download it, then put it up on my server with the rest.

Its not your computer that's at fault. The "original" PDF (s13_manual.pdf) has blank pages in it.. it'll go 3,4,5,blank,blank,blank,9,10,11...

The "tidied" PDF I did (S13 180sx Manual.pdf) threw out all the blank pages (about 300 of 'em!), as well as being searchable, having the pages in order, and bookmarks for the start of each section.

We have a bit more bandwidth to spare at the moment so the tracker has been up for about a month straight now. I also think it will permanently remain open unless with have a massive bandwidth blowout.

r33 is 150mb total (21 emails)
s13 is ~25mb or whatever (4 emails)

well if u have a silvia then get the s13 silvia one, but i think its a 180sx one anyway. its got more pages than the 180sx one i think, not sure the differences.
LordNafe - Tue Sep 21, 2004 4:16 pm
Post subject:
What I mean is that if I download the one titled "s13 silvia" adn it's an sr20det model s13, then it's no use to me is it? Because there are 2 s13 manuals listed on the Tracker obviously one is for the ca18det and one is for the sr20det. I need to know which is which
mayhem - Tue Sep 21, 2004 5:28 pm
Post subject:
Incorrect, the S13 manual is the original manual I recieved. I think its CA18DET.

The 180sx S13 manual is the exact same manual with the blank pages removed etc, some paging fix ups etc.

If you want more information, then read through this entire thread for full information on the Custom PDF (180sx S13) one.
NewKleer - Tue Sep 21, 2004 6:08 pm
Post subject:
guess it needs to be said again that there doesnt appear to be a sr20det version of the service manual for the s13 - only s14. so those with the sr20 have to check out engine stuff from s14, and the rest from s13.
mayhem - Tue Sep 21, 2004 7:03 pm
Post subject:
Yeah, looks to be the case.

If someone else has a different manual or any additional manuals they want to share, please email me and I will add it up on the tracker
NewKleer - Tue Sep 21, 2004 10:47 pm

is it possible to have the manuals renamed to what they really are (ie more accurately than current)

eg for the silvia s13, it should be something like "S13 180sx CA18DET FSM (original)", "S14 200sx SR20DET FSM", etc

i also have the engine manual for the r33 gts-t over 21 emails on gmail, but at 150mb its probably impractical to host without enough dedicated seeders

Sounds like your PDF software if having an issue or your download was corrupted.

Might want to try a download program such as FlashGet (http://www.flashget.com/download.htm) and then re-installing your PDF reader software: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
